Mobian language#

Mobian is Mobiania's state and national language. Its spelling and pronunciation are close to British English; the official spoken register is described as Royal Pronunciation. Mobian has a distinctive lexicon reflecting fox anatomy, society and state institutions.

Russian state documents and encyclopedia articles are translations of Mobian originals. Within the world, the Constitution and other legal acts are written in Mobian. MOB and RUS identify the Mobian and Russian versions of official materials.

An unidentified fox is referred to as a fox, while legal descriptions use subject. Biological description refers to the snout. Descriptions of the state use subjectship and subjects. The term civil does not exclude distinctions between constitutional, administrative, criminal and military matters.

In English speech the Emperor addresses a Mobian audience as folks; polite forms are gentlefolks and gentlefox. Nation, population and fellow Mobians describe the nation.

Forms of address and subordination#

A senior is addressed with the polite form followed by rank, or sir / ma'am. Forms include the equivalents of gentleman and lady, Mr., Mrs. and Miss; younger individuals may be addressed as little brother or little sister in the appropriate register. The Emperor is addressed as Your Imperial Majesty, Your Majesty, Your Imperial Majesty or My Emperor.

Comrade is not part of standard Mobian service language and carries a communist political association. In the presence of a senior commander, the hierarchy of address is observed. Public service speech emphasises discipline and the standing of those addressed.

Dates#

The main notation is DD/MM/YYYY, with slashes: 10/12/3236, 19/04/3244, 04/09/3246. When greater precision is unavailable, expressions such as in 3241, in January 3244 or by autumn 3241 are used. An unknown day is not replaced by the first day of the month.

The main project chronology uses the following correspondence:

Mobian year = Earth year AD + 1220.

Decree 044 of 14/01/3243 restored this dating system. Early archival documents contain the years 3241, 3242 and 3243. Encyclopedia accounts of this historical sequence use 3241, 3242 and 3243; original document dating is noted separately where necessary.

The HOI4 Earth timeline uses a separate correspondence: 1936 ↔ 3246, 1937 ↔ 3247. The +1220 formula does not apply to Earth dates in that scenario. A combined date may be written 3247 / 1937 in the HOI4 Earth timeline.

Time#

Mobian time is MBT-Time (( GMT+3 )) (MoBoTropolis Time, the time of Mobotropolis), with a 12-hour clock and lower-case am / pm. A leading zero is used only for hours 01 and 02:

ExampleMeaning
01:00 amOne hour after midnight
02:00 pmTwo hours after noon
3:00 pmThree hours after noon
7:00 pmSeven in the evening
11:00 amEleven in the morning
12:00 amMidnight
12:00 pmNoon

A complete timestamp is 04/09/3246, 7:00 pm, MBT-Time (( GMT+3 )). Historical records distinguish the time of an event from its publication time. An unknown event time is not replaced by an arbitrary timestamp.
